SEMINARIO INGLES II PROF. Claudia Mosquera
As students and future teachers what is the autonomy for?
When you hear the word autonomy the “synonym” that comes to your mind is freedom or off the leash. The use of autonomy relies in responsibility but I think not the kind of responsibility such as be punctual, stay up all night studying, or read as much as your eyes let you; I regard this responsibility as be capable of creating a strategy that permits us to know what, how, when and where to carry out learning.
The autonomy in learning depends on teachers and students given that if you are delimited by a plan of study that your teacher provides you (let’s say that you are being instructed by five teachers a week) what kind of strategy can you create?
This is why student and teacher should negotiate objectives and content, auto- evaluate or as I have learn assess and define the techniques of learning and communication. Ernesto Martín Peris [1993]
In fact the creation of strategies can help us develop and test our procedural knowledge and acquire information instead of learn it.
To conclude there is a quote that summarizes the intention of autonomy and the importance of promote it:
“If you give a man a fish, he will have a single meal. If you teach him how to fish, he will eat all his life” Kwan-Tzu (Confusio)
